Crocheting C2C methods - one colour

Updated: Nov 12, 2021

Welcome once again!

If you aren't heard of C2C crochet before, today is the day to dive a little deeper.

The C2C, meaning for beginners is corner-to-corner crochet. Today I would like to show you how to crochet this method.

It is a method that allows you to easily and quickly create small square elements, like in Minecraft ;)

When crocheting with the C2C method, we start our work in the lower-left corner and finish in the upper right corner.

In this post, I will show you how to crochet the C2C method, using one yarn colour.

We will need:

  • crochet hook (preferably in the size shown on the band on yarn)

  • scissors, and

  • needle with a large eye

To start C2C crochet, you should be able to do:

  • chain stitch

  • double crochet stitch, and

  • slip stitch

Tutorial "Basics for C2C crocheting - Chain Stitch, Double Crochet Stitch and Slip Stitch" can be found on my blog.

In my projects I use:

  • GRAPH - shows us which way to crochet

And

  • DESCRIPTION - the row is a row (P - Purple)

Let's start!

INCREASE

  1. We start our work by making 6 chain stitches.

2. Catch the yarn with a hook and move the crochet hook towards the 4th chain stitch

3. Make a double crochet stitch on the 4th chain stitch. We now have two double crochet (the first was made of chain stitch and the second we made now)

4. Then we make two more double crochet stitch.

5. We made the first square, that is:

↘ ROW 1: 1P

6. We pass to the second row.

Make 6 chain stitches

7. Catch the yarn with a hook and move the crochet hook towards the 4th chain stitch

8. Make a 3 times double crochet stitch, start on the 4th chain stitch.

9. Turn the piece and stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet.

10. We make a slip stitch.

11. We make 3 chain stitches

12. In the same space, make 3 times double crochet

13. We have finished the second row.

ROW 2: 2P

14. We pass to the third row.

Make 6 chain stitches

15. Catch the yarn with a hook and move the crochet hook towards the 4th chain stitch.

Make a 3 times double crochet stitch, start on the 4th chain stitch.

16. Turn the piece and stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet. We make a slip stitch.

17. We make 3 chain stitches.

In the same space, make 3 times double crochet.

We have a second square

18. Again, stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet. Make a slip stitch

and 3 chain stitches.

19. In the same space, make 3 times double crochet

20. We have finished the third row.

ROW 3: 3P

21. We do the next rows, in the same way, increasing our piece.

22. When you get to the point where your piece is the right size (row 10 in this case) we will start to reduce our work.

23. We have 10 squares on each side of the triangle.

DECREASE

24. We start reducing the piece from the top left corner.

We turn the piece.

25. We make a slip stitch in the next four stitches.

26. We make 3 chain stitches

and, 3 times double crochet.

27. Then, we work the squares as usual, except for the last one.

28. Stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet. Make a slip stitch.

29. Turn the piece and make a slip stitch in the next four stitches.

30. We work the squares except the last one.

The number of squares in the hypotenuse line decreases by one for each successive row. (look GRAPH and DESCRIPTION below)

31. We finish the last square with a slip stitch.

32. We work one chain stitch and thread the wool through this stitch.

33. We have a finished product.
